How to use the reading log
Pick a log. The daily reading log gives you one line for every day of the month: the book, how many pages or minutes, and a tick or a star. The book list holds every book you finish this year, with a rating. The school log tracks minutes with a parent initials column and a weekly total, the way most teachers ask for it.
Type the reader's name, or leave it blank to print copies for a whole class. Choose the month, then print or save it as a PDF.
On the daily log, write a floor and a ceiling. The floor is the smallest reading that still counts, like one page. Tick the day when you step on the floor. Star it when you burst through the ceiling.
Why a reading log works
A reading log turns "I should read more" into a line you can fill tonight. Seeing a month of filled lines is its own reward, and an empty line is just one day, never the book.
The floor matters most. Readers who quit usually aimed too high on a tired night and then stopped for a week. One page keeps the book open. Ten pages a day finishes about a book a month.
The best reading logs are shared. Kids read more when someone signs the line, and adults read more when a friend sees the checkin. That is the whole idea behind reading with friends on Habit Huddle.
Questions people ask
What should a reading log include?
The date, the book, and how much you read in pages or minutes. A good log adds a small target for busy days and a way to mark great days. A school log usually adds a parent signature or initials and a weekly total.
How many minutes a day should kids read?
Many schools ask for 20 minutes a night for elementary students, which adds up to about 100 minutes over a five-day week. Set the weekly goal on the school log to whatever the teacher asks for.
Is there a reading log for adults?
Yes. The daily reading log and the book list are built for adults: track pages or minutes, set a floor for busy days, and keep a list of every book you finish this year with a rating.
Can I print reading logs for my whole class?
Yes. Choose the school reading log, add your class name and weekly goal, leave the student name blank, and print as many copies as you need. Students write their own name at the top.
